Contraception

After delivery, you are welcome at our practice for advice regarding contraception, and the placement or prescription of all sorts of contraception.

We would be happy to inform you about the pros and cons of the different contraceptives. Which contraceptive is best for your personal situation (for example, if you are breastfeeding)? In addition, we can also give you prescriptions for oral contraception and IUDs. Our midwives also insert IUDs.

During the standard postpartum check (after delivery) we can inform you about contraception and, if necessary, immediately prescribe the pill. If you’re considering contraception, then we will ask you to fill out a questionnaire. A midwife assesses your medical condition and then you will receive a prescription. Before inserting the Mirena, Kyleena or the copper IUDs, we make an appointment 10 to 12 weeks after your delivery. Six weeks after placement, we will make an ultrasound.

Prescribing oral contraceptives comes at no additional. Inserting an IUD costs € 67,52 in 2022 and the costs are covered bij the inthe health insurance. By comparison, at the gynecologist, IUD insertion costs between € 350 – € 400 depending on the hospital. This is part of your personal contribution/excess. At the general practitioner, insertion of an IUD is at no cost, and no excess is involved.
